 Selena Quintanilla Perez (Spanish pronunciation"se'lena kinta'nija'peres 16 April 1971 from April 16, 1971 until March 31,), known mononymously as Selena was an American Tejano singer. Selena was known as the "Queen Tejano music", her contribution to music and fashion helped make her one of the most well-known entertainers from Mexico ever. Billboard magazine placed her at third place in the year 2020, in their "Greatest Latino Artists List of All Time", which was built on Latin music as well as Latin albums. For her choice of clothing media outlets dubbed her the Tejano Madonna. She is also among the most famous Latin artists of all time . She has been credited with bringing the Tejano genre into the mainstream market.The youngest child of the Quintanilla family, she debuted in the music industry as one of the members of the band Selena y Los Dinos, which also included her elder siblings A.B. Quintanilla, Suzette Quintanilla. They were frequently criticised in the 1980s , and was barred from bookings at Texas venues for her performance of Tejano music, which is a largely male-dominated genre. After receiving the Tejano Music Award in 1987 for Female Vocalist, she began to gain recognition. The singer was signed to EMI Latin in 1989 and made her debut album with her own name the same year, while her brother became her principal music producer and songwriter.Selena has released Entre a Mi Mundo (1992), which peaked at number one on the US Billboard Regional Mexican Albums chart for eight consecutive months. It was hailed by critics for being the "breakthrough" album of her career. One of the singles, "Como la Flor" was one of her most popular song titles. Live! (1993) was nominated as the best Mexican/American album at the 1994 Grammy Awards. It was the first Tejano recording to win this award. Amor Prohibido became one the most-sold Latin albums in America in 1994. It was praised by critics as the first Tejano music album to be commercially viable and quickly became one the most well-known Latin subgenres of Latin music of the time.
